Our current Social Diversity for Children Foundation’s Youth Team CEO (2021-2022), Alice Bae made huge strides and positive impacts throughout her tenure in SDC. The Person of the Month Award is presented to hardworking, dedicated members of the community to be recognized for their remarks. We are pleased to have Alice Bae, a senior at Langley Fine Arts School as SDC’s October Person of the Month. In her positions on the Youth Team, she has created initiatives such as our newest drama program, Drama for Diversity. Through Alice’s leadership and hardwork, new SDC projects are constantly in the works as she leads the youth team diligently.
Born in South Korea, Alice then lived in China for three years, and is now living in Canada. She describes herself as an outgoing and positive person, who loves working with children and educating others on disability justice. In her free time, she tackles some of her hobbies which include videography and reading. In the future, Alice hopes to work in Congress, proposing initiatives to make the lives of marginalized groups better.
Alice has been with SDC for nearly three years, starting as a volunteer, to an operations associate, to the Deputy Chief of Staff, and finally, the CEO of the 2021-2022 SDC Youth Team. Through volunteering for the Once Upon a Shine Gala in 2020 and for SDC’s programs, Alice quickly fell in love with the atmosphere and mission that SDC has: empowerment of youth with disabilities. Her sense of volunteerism grew into her passion for disability justice and what it means to be an ally.
Alice has definitely been a crucial member to SDC with lists of initiatives that she was in charge of. In particular, recently, she coordinated the Youth Team that consists of over 30 members to sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts to fundraise for SDC’s programs. With her clear sense of logistics and adaptability to challenges, we are proud to present the POM award to Alice, especially considering that she is still a high school student!
Through her 4 years of experience at SDC, Alice not only had the opportunity to enhance her leadership ability, but also gained more confidence. In one of her big accomplishments, she implemented the Drama program, a way for children to express their emotions and characters. This was possible as she grew out of her comfort zone and gained the skills to further explore her ideas. We are happy to have Alice on our team and are looking forward to her future contributions to SDC!
