Gotta Catch’em all: Collecting all the Fun at SDC’s Newest Program

Social Diversity for Children Foundation (SDC) recently started a new program - Balloon Artistry Adventure - a balloon making class where the participants could make balloon figures of their favourite Pokémon and improve their fine motor skills. This program is extremely interesting to all the participants because they could learn various essential skills in an engaging and creative way.

This program not only helped the participants to improve their hands-on and coordination skills, but taught them how to overcome challenges. When things are not going their way as working with balloons tend to be, they are encouraged to try again and to work their way around the problem.

Not only were the participants excited to bring home a Pokémon balloon, they learned various ways to solve problems and to learn from their peers. They were encouraged to persevere when encountering areas of struggle, which left the participants feeling accomplished when they worked their way through the problems.

As the participants were getting the hang of what they were doing, the overall atmosphere in the class was lighthearted and everybody was having a great time. As the class was wrapping up, you can see the excitement and the look of accomplishment wash over everybody’s faces. The participants not only made a very unique balloon to take home, they also learned essential life skills such as finding different ways to deal with their respective struggles and to learn from their peers. This experience teaches them the importance of perseverance and resilience.

As SDC continues to grow as an organization, we hope to run more amazing programs to help equip and support children with special needs by providing opportunities, to foster an environment where every child, regardless of their challenges, can grow, learn, and reach their full potential.

About the Founder - David James Wang

In 2010, David James Wang founded Social Diversity for Children Foundation (SDC) with a singular mission: empowering youth to empower children with special needs. Driven by a deep sense of love and compassion, David set out to create a space where children with special needs could feel supported, safe, and accepted—a place they could call their "second home."

David’s vision took shape through a variety of social programs that tapped into creative, academic, and emotional development. From art and music to math and drama, these programs were designed to engage children in ways that not only fostered learning but also built lasting friendships and confidence.

“From small beginnings, SDC has grown into a community where every child, regardless of their ability, can find a place to shine,” says David, reflecting on the Foundation’s journey.

Over the years, David's dedication drew attention and support from around the world, growing SDC into a global movement. His passion has brought communities together, offering resources and opportunities to children with special needs, while inspiring youth to lead with compassion. By expanding SDC’s reach, David has ensured that the Foundation can meet the evolving needs of the community, aiming to cultivate a culture of inclusivity, enthusiasm, and understanding.

Through his leadership, David has demonstrated how one individual’s passion can mobilize global efforts, bringing together diverse voices in pursuit of a shared goal: to create a more compassionate and inclusive society for all.
